Occupants Fumigation Instructions

• Food, beverages, drugs, and medications must be double bagged in Nylofume bags provided by the company and sealed. The food in the refrigerator and freezer must also be bagged. The only exceptions to this include glass or metal bottles, jars, and cans that still have the original manufacturer’s air-tight seal still intact. Anything that could go in your body needs to be bagged.

• Everything living must be out. Pets and living plants must be out for the fume. Fish must also be removed from the fish tank. Be sure no pet, stray cat, or wildlife is under your house before the fume. Seal off openings to prevent anything from entering.

• Everything must be accessible. Unlock all doors, drawers, cabinets, chests, etc. This helps with circulation and aeration. Make sure the windows are not locked or nailed shut as some will need to be opened during the fumigation for circulation and aeration.

• Medium and larger-sized safes must also be left open or at least checked before the fumigation begins.

• Air conditioning units must be turned off during the fumigation.
• Remove all waterproof mattress and pillow covers. If the covers cannot be removed, the waterproof mattresses and pillows must be removed before the fumigation.
• Electricity must remain on for the operation of the fans during the fumigation.
• Extinguish all sources of heat. This includes flames and pilot lights.
• Natural gas service must be off for the fume. The company will arrange to have the gas shut off, but the occupant must arrange for the gas to be turned back on. Inform them this is for fumigation so you are a priority. The Gas Company can be contacted at (800) 427-2200. Be sure to call well in advance for the gas to be turned back on so they can make arrangements to have it turned on the same day the tent is removed.
• Be prepared to vacate the structure before or upon the arrival of the fumigation team. Be sure not to enter the structure until the “safe to enter” notice has been placed on the front door after the tent has been removed.
• Be sure to inform neighbors about the fumigation so they manage their pets responsibly.
• Plants near the structure should be watered the night before to reduce the risk of dying. Be sure that all plants are also trimmed 12 inches minimum away from the structure so the tent can be properly placed.
• Keys to the structure will need to be arranged before the fume. The keys will need to be left for the fumigation manager or the occupant must remain for the fume to lock up. Please be aware, however, that the fumigation manager must return for the aeration as well as the removal of the tents. The occupant must be available on these days to meet with them if they do not leave them the keys.
• Security is not hired for the fumigation, so needed security must be arranged by the occupant. One option is to inform trusted neighbors along with your local sheriff department so they will drive by more often during the fumigation.
• If you are fumigating for bed bugs, it is recommended to keep your vehicle in the garage so it can get fumigated in case there are any bed bugs inside. Be sure to roll down the windows to help with the airflow. Leave your luggage, purse and personal belongings behind to get fumed as well. Do NOT take a chance of bringing any with you.

Instructions Upon Completion

• After the fumigation, a “safe for entry” notice will be posted on the door. This notice must remain on the door for the gas company. They will not enter the structure to turn on the gas if it has been removed. Make sure all tenants are aware not to remove it. Removing it will cause a delay in the gas getting turned back on

• Do NOT enter the structure until the “safe for entry” notice has been posted.

• It is not necessary to wash clothes or dishes as gas does not leave a residue.
